My name is Ronelle Rifunit. I’m one small part of the band Rifunit. You can find more details about us if you’re interested at http://www.rifunit.com but for now…. well let’s get down to why I’m writing this blog.
I’ve been reading a blog by a gentleman named Bob Lefsetz who has been writing music industry articles for many a year. I have drawn some inspiration & ideas but I have also at times been annoyed. Music is very much an industry based on opinion, like & dislike. And in the words of Miss Kharma Konway, “opinions are like assholes, everyones’ got one” Based on this I decided it’s time for me… yes lil ole me to write the other truths about being an independant because ther are so many conflicting views & opinions out there.
You may very well ask.. what qualifies me to say anything at all?? The fact that I am actually doing this!! Even though Rifunit is a new project for us, as musos we’ve been at it for some time. We’ve been through the doors of record labels, played live, struggled to get gigs, dealt with flakey musicians, had negative people beat us down, missed opportunities, been ripped off & so much more. So why do we keep doing this?? Because music is life… & there are ways to make it on your own. It takes hard work & a commitment to educate yourself to minimise the pitfalls of this dangerous industry & who better to help you than those who have actually been there.
So here’s where we are at in our own musical journey……We are workin on our album at the moment, all our songs are written & we are in the recording process. Like so many artists this is a very trying time & being independant you do everything by yourself while still working a day job to keep a roof over your instruments. When the album is complete you start a whole new phase that is just as time consuming & difficult.
What we hope to do with this blog is share some of our personal experiences & things we’ve learnt along the way. We will also endeavour to bring you other helpful sites & sources of information so make sure you add us to your favoirites & if you have any questions or topics you’d like to discuss mention it here!!
